A Day in Movement
Vol .001
There’s a rhythm to a day built around movement. From the moment the sun rises to the last light slowly dropping below the horizon, your body and mind find flow in motion. Today, I was lucky enough to move through it all, a morning run to start the day off strong, getting slammed by some waves and calling it surfing, and paddling through the harbor at sunset. Movement isn't just exercise, its how life unfolds.
Morning Run
I usually kick off my day with a run or ride, heading out early to beat the heat and crowds. But today I was a little late. I was watching The Social Network last night and I just had to finish it. After electrolytes and coffee, I finally hit the streets around 7 a.m. Luckily it was still cool, and the roads felt quiet. Seems like everyone else decided to have a slow start too.
What started as an easy run turned into a tempo run, because why not. Ended up with 5.5 miles at a 7:34 pace, not too bad for a late start.
In my opinion, morning runs are the best way to start your day. They just hit different. Getting going can feel tough, but once you find your rhythm and focus on the mile you’re in, it clicks. Then suddenly you’re done, feeling incredible, fueled up, and ready to carry that energy and momentum through the rest of your day.
And its also a healthy habit to stop at your local coffee shop and grab a nice cold brew with a pastry of your choice.
Noon – Surf Session
After regrouping from the morning run, the plan was simple: get in the water and surf the storm swell. It might be a little out of my league, but that doesn’t matter I’m getting out there. My legs feel awake, my lungs full, and my body primed to move, all thanks to that early run. Crazy how a few miles on land can make paddling out feel smoother and catching waves just a bit easier.
Hurricane Erin is sitting off the coast of New England, and throwing us a clean storm swell. Big enough to be fun, but thankfully not making landfall. I grabbed my gear, packed up, and headed out, half-joking that I was about to “dominate” the water (still very much figuring this surfing thing out).
Before long I was suited up and walking the jagged little path down to the beach, welcomed by the first consistent waves of the summer. Paddling out was a grind, but once I made it past the break, I was stoked. Like I said, I’m no great surfer yet, but that’s the fun. Every wave is practice, every ride a small win. And even when I get slammed, I walk out of the water smiling. #Imthebestskiierinthewater
Evening Paddle
The day has been packed with movement, and after getting slammed by the surf I needed something to bring the intensity down. And that’s nothing a little SUP can’t do. Paddle boarding has always been one of my reset buttons, calming, steady, the perfect way to close out the chaos of a full day.
Once I was on my board, I had to paddle upwind for about a mile just to earn a good cross-breeze glide back. It’s never really about speed for me out there, it’s about rhythm. The control and form of each stroke, the way you set your paddle, pull, and reset. That slow build of momentum is what keeps you moving forward.

End of Day Thoughts
A day like this is a reminder that movement isn't just about workouts or performance, it's about how you engage with your day. From the morning run to the afternoon surf session and the evening paddle, each activity flows into the next - a true Balance of Movements.
The right gear makes it easier to move between them, but the real joy comes from being present, learning, and enjoying every movement. It isn't just exercise, it's balance.
